Russia got confused where the "Russian fighters" from Belarus were going to fly

The Russian side was unable to accurately designate the country of further departure of Russian citizens detained in Belarus.

The loud and scandalous detention on the territory of Belarus of several dozen Russian citizens accused of extremism, for which the latter may face the death penalty, raised many questions about where the detainees were in fact supposed to go later.

Initially, the Russian side reported that all Russian citizens detained by the special services of Belarus intended to fly to Istanbul, however, a new version appeared the day before - the detainees were supposed to fly to Venezuela, Cuba, Syria and Turkey - although the latter had tickets for departure exclusively to Istanbul, as reported by the Investigative Committee of Belarus after interrogating the detained Russian citizens.

A little earlier, the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Belarus stated the exact opposite:

"They intended to fly from Minsk to Istanbul on July 25 and did not intend to stay in the republic for any length of time, and much later they planned to return to the Russian capital from another state by plane, bypassing the territory of Belarus.", - he said.

Given the fact that these two versions contradict each other, it is still unknown what exactly the Russian citizens, who in Belarus are already ranked among the militants, according to local media reports, on the territory of the neighboring country, did. On the other hand, experts draw attention to the fact that today Minsk has no evidence that the detainees were preparing to overthrow the authorities in the republic, however, given the fact that the latter are wanted by the Ukrainian special services, Belarus may well extradite them to Kiev.

There is no contradiction. During the pandemic, the routes became more complicated, and through Minsk - Istanbul with connecting flights to anywhere else.
