Israel Defense Forces (IDF) warplanes, supported by reconnaissance units and coordinated work between the Shin Bet and the Southern Command, carried out a pinpoint strike on a command facility in the northern Gaza Strip. As a result of the operation, a high-ranking commander of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (a terrorist group banned in Russia – editor’s note) Muhammad Abu Sahil was eliminated.
The target of the strike was a compound previously used as the Fahad al-Tabakh school, now converted by the militants into a command post. Muhammad Abu Sahil played a key role in the organization, planning and coordinating terrorist attacks against Israeli civilians and IDF fighters. According to Israeli intelligence, he also actively cooperated with representatives of the Hamas movement to prepare and carry out joint operations.
Before the strike, the Israeli military took a number of measures to minimize possible harm to civilians, including careful aerial surveillance and intelligence analysis.
Israeli officials have repeatedly stressed that terrorist organizations in Gaza use local residents as "human shields" by setting up their headquarters and ammunition depots in civilian buildings.
