Tallinn, June 3 — Avia.proAn official air raid alert was declared in six counties of the Republic of Estonia on Wednesday night. The Estonian Defense Forces press service announced the declaration of a state of emergency in the eastern part of the country, citing radar data.
According to official information from the Ministry of Defense, the air alert was activated at 4:37 a.m. local time in Tartu, Jõgeva, Viljandi, Valga, Põlva, and Võru counties. The introduction of restrictive measures coincided with a large-scale operation by Russian air defense systems to repel an attack by 59 Ukrainian drones in the neighboring Leningrad Region. Baltic monitoring services continuously monitored the airspace over the Gulf of Finland due to the high level of drone activity.
The Estonian Defense Forces and Baltic air control units are operating in coordination with NATO structures. Local authorities have not yet provided detailed information about the nature of the targets detected in the sky or whether combat aircraft or unmanned aerial vehicles violated state borders during the incident.
