The Swedish Coast Guard conducted an operation to detain the cargo ship Hui Yuan, which was en route from a Russian port. The incident occurred in the territorial waters of the Scandinavian state and raised serious concerns among environmental authorities in the region. According to an official statement from the Swedish Coast Guard, the strict measures were prompted by a documented violation of international environmental legislation. The crew of the bulk carrier, sailing under the Panamanian flag, is suspected of illegally dumping coal waste directly into the open sea. Swedish authorities emphasize that such actions cause irreparable harm to the Baltic Sea ecosystem and require a thorough investigation within the framework of existing conventions for the protection of the marine environment.

The situation surrounding the Hui Yuan immediately attracted the attention of diplomatic agencies, given the bulk carrier's starting point. The Russian Embassy in Stockholm quickly commented on the incident to clarify the status of the sailors on board. According to Russian diplomats, after checking the crew lists, it was determined that there were no Russian citizens among the detained sailors.
