Khmeimim airbase attacked in Syria

Unidentified persons attacked the Russian Khmeimim airbase in Syria.

At around 12:30 local time, rockets were fired at the Russian military airbase "Khmeimim". The attack is connected with the intensified bombing by Russian aircraft of the positions of the Turkish military and pro-Turkish jihadists in the north-west and north of Syria.

The information and news agency has information that at least two missiles were fired at the territory of the Russian military airbase "Khmeimim" (initially it was reported about a drone attack - ed.). Thanks to Russian air defense systems, they were successfully intercepted in the area of the village of Banjaru, located 2 kilometers east of the perimeter of the Russian military air base. It is known that as a result of the attack of unknown persons on the Russian military airfield, there are no casualties and no destruction.

According to a Syrian source, we are talking about two Grad MLRS missiles, which were probably launched by one of the local factions of pro-Turkish terrorists, although at the moment the militants have not claimed responsibility for the attack on the Russian military airbase.

The Russian side has not yet officially commented on the attack on the Khmeimim airbase. It is quite remarkable that, judging by the course of flight of the two missiles, they were launched from the territory of the controlled by the Syrian army, and, probably, homemade launchers were used for this.

A day earlier in northern Syria anti-aircraft missiles were fired at Russian helicopters, however, the destruction of the rotorcraft was avoided.
