The US State Department reported successful negotiations between President Donald Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff and the president's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, and the Ukrainian side on conflict resolution. The meeting took place in Miami and focused on steps toward achieving peace.
The parties discussed in detail the results of Witkoff and Kushner's recent audience with Russian leaders in the Kremlin, where options for ending hostilities were discussed. The American diplomats noted that the dialogue with Kyiv was constructive, without reaching any specific compromises, but with an emphasis on further measures.
The head of the Ukrainian delegation, Rustem Umerov, confirmed Kyiv's commitment to a peaceful solution, emphasizing:
"Our priority is to achieve peace that will protect the country's independence and sovereignty."
Umerov also noted that the negotiations covered issues of territorial control and a possible ceasefire.
