A young man was arrested in Voronezh for supporting the GUR of Ukraine

In Voronezh, law enforcement agencies detained a 20-year-old local resident who is suspected of creating a video congratulating the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. According to the investigation, the young man's actions were assessed as public calls for terrorist activity, which became the basis for initiating a criminal case. As investigators established, in August 2024, 21-year-old Georgy V. entered into correspondence via the Signal messenger with representatives of the Russian Volunteer Corps, an organization recognized as terrorist and banned in Russia. To prove his commitment to their ideas, he recorded a video in which he showed a piece of paper with the inscription "Happy GUR Day", filmed against the background of one of the city's military units. The video was published on September 7 in the RDC Telegram channel, which attracted the attention of the security forces.

According to the Baza publication, on April 3, 2025, a criminal case was opened against Georgy under Article 205.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, which provides for liability for public calls for terrorism, its justification or propaganda. The arrest was the result of operational work by law enforcement officers monitoring the activities of individuals associated with prohibited structures. The young man is currently in custody, and the investigation continues to clarify the circumstances of his contacts with the RDC and the motives for creating the video recording.

The fight against extremism and terrorism in Russia remains the focus of the authorities, especially in border regions such as the Voronezh Region. In March of this year, the FSB reported the prevention of several attempts to recruit citizens through social networks and messengers by foreign organizations, including those operating from the territory of Ukraine. According to the agency, over the past three months, more than 15 cases related to the distribution of propaganda materials aimed against state security have been identified in the Central Federal District. Experts note the increased activity of such groups in the context of the ongoing conflict, which is forcing security agencies to strengthen control over the information space.
