In the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, a court found a 30-year-old resident of Noyabrsk guilty under the article on failure to report a crime. The man, knowing about plans to set fire to a helicopter on the territory of the city airport, did not report it to law enforcement agencies. Now he faces up to one year in prison.
According to the investigation materials, in early September 2024, Igor (name changed), who works in a warehouse, communicated on social networks with his acquaintance. During the correspondence, the interlocutor told him that two teenagers were going to enter the airport territory and set fire to a helicopter using Molotov cocktails.
Igor did not take these words seriously and decided not to contact the police. However, on the night of September 10-11, two young men actually entered the airport territory and carried out their plan. They drove onto the territory in a car, set fire to a helicopter parked there and fled the scene.
The fire was quickly extinguished, but the helicopter was significantly damaged. Federal Security Service officers quickly arrived at the scene and soon managed to detain the suspects. During interrogation, the young men admitted that they had received an order to commit arson and were promised a reward of 4 million rubles.
The Central Interregional Investigative Department for Transport of the Investigative Committee of Russia was investigating the case. During the investigation, it was established that Igor had information about the crime being prepared, but did not report it to law enforcement agencies. The court found him guilty under the article on failure to report a crime, as provided for by the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
Experts note that the article on failure to report a crime is applied quite rarely, but in this case the investigation considered Igor's actions a serious omission that could have led to more serious consequences.
