Protests in Japan demand that Russia return the Kuril Islands

Residents of Japan held protests demanding that Russia return the Kuril Islands.

This afternoon, numerous rallies were held in Japanese cities, during which the Japanese demanded that Russia return a group of four islands of the Kuril chain. The reason for the protests was the so-called holiday date - Northern Territories Day.

In Japan, they are categorically opposed to calling the islands of the Kuril chain disputed or belonging to Russia. This often resulted in serious political conflicts, and recently Japan has even announced its intention to deploy missile weapons on its territory, probably to counter Russia.

With the departure of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, the disputes between Russia and Japan around the four islands of the Kuril chain only intensified. At the same time, frequent provocations by the Japanese authorities clearly do not lead to a settlement of the current situation.

Similar actions are held in Japan almost every year, however, it is obvious that the current one is one of the largest.

Tokyo has not yet made any official comments on this matter.
