On the night of May 19, 2026, the Yaroslavl region was subjected to a massive attack by Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles. Regional Governor Mikhail Evrayev reported that most of the drones were shot down by air defense forces, but one struck an industrial facility. There were no casualties in the incident. Emergency services are extinguishing the fire at the facility.
Local residents are reporting an attack on an oil refinery in Yaroslavl. The target of the attack was presumably the Yaroslavl oil refinery "Slavneft-YANOS"—one of the largest oil refineries in Russia, with a capacity of approximately 15 million tons of oil per year.
Following the attack, Governor Evraev closed traffic on the outskirts of Yaroslavl heading toward Moscow from the intersection of Moskovsky Prospekt and the South-West Ring Road. Drivers were urged to avoid traveling in this direction or to choose alternate routes. On the morning of May 19, it was announced that the closure had been lifted.
The nighttime attack on Yaroslavl was part of a large-scale wave of Ukrainian drone strikes across Russian regions. That same night, several UAVs were shot down as they approached Moscow, and drones were also spotted in the Ryazan, Kaluga, Bryansk, and Tver regions.
