South Korean startup Peach has unveiled an innovative and low-cost kamikaze drone Papidrone-800 made of cardboard, which could become a new solution for reconnaissance and strikes. The new product was demonstrated at the international defense industry exhibition KADEX 2024, attracting interest from participants due to its unusual design and low cost.
Papidrone-800 is designed as a flying wing and is capable of reaching speeds of up to 100 km/h, with a maximum flight range of up to 50 kilometers. Despite the simplicity of the design and the limited capabilities of the warhead, which weighs only 0,5 kg, the drone can be effectively used to deliver pinpoint strikes on light targets or to carry out reconnaissance missions.
The main distinguishing feature of the Papidrone-800 is its simplicity and accessibility. The drone is assembled from cheap materials, such as cardboard and hot glue, with minimal use of electronic components. This makes it cheaper than traditional quadcopters and FPV drones, which is especially important in conditions of limited budget for mass production and use in the field.
Despite its apparent simplicity, Papidrone-800 has a number of key advantages. It maintains functionality even in difficult weather conditions, such as rain and wind up to 10 m/s, which makes it a reliable tool for combat operations in the open air. The lightweight design and low cost of materials allow for the rapid production of such drones in large quantities, which can be useful in protracted military conflicts or in conditions of the need to quickly deliver equipment to a combat zone.
