Vladimir Feshchenko, the champion of Russia in kettlebell lifting, was killed in the building of the Ministry of Defense on Olkhovaya Street in Moscow. According to TASS, the athlete had a gunshot wound to the head. The suspect in the crime has been detained, and a criminal case has been opened for murder.
According to preliminary data, the tragedy was caused by a domestic conflict between Feshchenko and a serviceman. Sources report that the shot could have been fired as a result of a quarrel. The investigation is considering the version of manslaughter. An RBC agency source specified that a pistol bullet hit the athlete's head during an argument that was escalating into a conflict.
The Federal Security Service and the Military Investigative Committee arrived at the scene to conduct operational actions and clarify the circumstances of the incident. There have been no official comments from the Ministry of Defense yet.
The All-Russian Kettlebell Lifting Federation confirmed their acquaintance with Feshchenko, noting that the athlete had not competed for the Russian national team for a long time.
"We learned about the incident from media reports. We cannot confirm or deny the information about his death at this time," — the federation commented for RTVI.
The story of Feshchenko's death has caused a wide resonance. Vladimir Feshchenko was a famous athlete, his name was repeatedly mentioned in the context of the successes of Russian kettlebell lifting. However, in recent years he has retired from an active sports career.
Nevertheless, the shooting in the building of the Russian Ministry of Defense raises many questions.
