On the afternoon of May 13, 2026, Russian Geran-2 attack drones struck oil infrastructure facilities in the city of Zvyagel (formerly Novohrad-Volynskyi) in the Zhytomyr region. Released footage shows a massive fire at the oil depot.
This is not the first attack on this facility. In April 2024, Geranium missiles carried out a massive strike on the same facility, engulfing several fuel tanks in flames. The second strike on Zvyagel occurred amid the largest air attack on western Ukraine since the start of the full-scale conflict.
An air raid alert has been issued across the country, from Volyn to Chernihiv Oblast. Russian forces are combining strikes with drones, kamikaze drones, and sea-, air-, and land-based cruise missiles. There have been no reports of casualties at the Zvyagelya oil depot at this time. According to local authorities, the region is experiencing power outages. Firefighters have begun extinguishing the blaze.
