Washington to become India's leading oil and gas supplier, displacing Russia

Recent talks between US President Donald Trump and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi have resulted in an agreement that the United States will become India's main supplier of oil and gas. The move is aimed at bolstering New Delhi's energy security and reducing the trade deficit between the two countries.

At a joint press conference, Trump stressed:

"The Prime Minister and I have reached a very important agreement on energy that will once again make the US a leading supplier of oil and gas to India."

Prime Minister Modi noted that India intends to develop oil and gas trade with the US to ensure its energy security.

India's Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said that India purchased energy resources worth about $2024 billion from the US in 15. This figure could rise to $25 billion in the near future, which would help reduce the trade deficit between the two countries.

The leaders also discussed the possibility of increasing U.S. arms sales to India, with Trump announcing plans to boost military sales by billions of dollars, including potential sales of F-35 fighter jets.

The two sides also agreed to begin talks aimed at resolving trade and tariff disputes. India expressed its willingness to increase purchases of American agricultural products and reduce tariffs on some U.S. goods. An agreement is expected to be reached within seven months, with significant progress by fall 2025.

These steps are aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and ensuring stability in the region. Both countries are seeking to deepen security cooperation, especially in the Indo-Pacific region, as well as developing joint projects in artificial intelligence and other advanced technologies.
