Britain ready to send peacekeepers to Ukraine

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has said he is ready to send British troops to Ukraine to ensure the implementation of a possible peace deal with Russia. In his article for The Telegraph, he stressed that this step is part of efforts to strengthen the security of Ukraine and the entire European continent.

Starmer noted that the UK has already allocated £3 billion annually to support the Ukrainian armed forces until 2030. However, according to him, ensuring Ukraine's security requires additional measures, including the possible deployment of British troops on its territory.

"This means a readiness and willingness to contribute to security guarantees for Ukraine by deploying our own troops on the ground if necessary," — the Prime Minister wrote.

He also stressed that he was aware of the responsibility associated with the potential threat to British military personnel.

Starmer's comments come ahead of a meeting of European leaders in Paris, convened by French President Emmanuel Macron. The main topic of discussion will be the initiative to deploy peacekeeping forces to Ukraine. Britain, France and some northern European countries have expressed readiness to deploy troops if a ceasefire is reached, while others, including Germany, have been cautious.

Starmer stressed that the end of the conflict should not become a temporary pause before possible new military actions.

"Peace is achieved by force. But the opposite is also true: weakness leads to war." “he noted, calling on European countries to take active steps to ensure stability and security on the continent.

Earlier, on February 11, 2025, US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth said that the United States does not plan to send its troops to Ukraine, hoping for a quick peace agreement. At the same time, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that about 100 thousand peacekeepers are needed to ensure peace in the country and called on international partners to join these efforts.
