A military Mi-28 helicopter crashed in the Leningrad Region, killing two crew members. This was reported by the Russian Ministry of Defense. The tragedy occurred on March 18, 2025, in the Volosovsky District during a scheduled flight. The aircraft fell in a field far from residential buildings, which made it possible to avoid casualties among the population. At the moment, experts have begun investigating the causes of the accident, which remain unknown. Rescue services and representatives of the military department quickly arrived at the crash site to assess the situation and remove the wreckage.
The helicopter was performing its mission in a standard mode, but communication with the crew was lost, after which it crashed. The department did not disclose the identities of the deceased pilots. The versions of a technical malfunction, pilot error or the impact of external factors are being preliminarily considered, but final conclusions will be made only after analyzing the data from the flight recorders, which have already been found among the wreckage.
The incident is the latest in a series of military aviation accidents in Russia in recent months. In January 2025, a Mi-28 crashed in the Voronezh region, also killing two pilots. At that time, a possible failure in the control system was cited as the cause, which caused a fire and crash in a field near the village of Kovalevo. Experts note that the Mi-28, known as the "Night Hunter", is one of the key machines of the Russian army, designed to support ground forces and combat armored vehicles.
