Indian Ocean, June 5 — Avia.proThe US Navy conducted an operation to interdict the large-capacity oil tanker M/T Davina, currently operating under the trade name Lenore. A cargo of 1,9 million barrels of Iranian crude oil was discovered on board the vessel, which was blocked in the Indian Ocean.

According to objective monitoring systems, the loading of hydrocarbons onto this vessel took place at a specialized Iranian oil terminal located on Kharg Island and was completed on March 20. Three days later, on March 23, the tanker left the territorial waters of the Islamic Republic of Iran, after which the crew completely disabled the automatic identification system (AIS). For the past six weeks, the vessel has been secretly moored near the port city of Galle in Sri Lanka.

Information about the vessel's detention was disseminated by specialized international maritime logistics agencies. This vessel was included on the official US Treasury Department sanctions list back in 2024 as a verified element of the Iranian "shadow fleet" used to circumvent economic and energy restrictions imposed by Washington.
