War correspondent Vladimir Romanov denied the information about a large-scale encirclement of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kursk region, calling such claims unfounded. According to his data, published on the Telegram channel, there is no "cauldron" or large-scale capture of Ukrainian troops in the region. Instead, according to Romanov, only small, scattered foot groups of four to six people are operating in the combat zone, which, upon discovery, are promptly destroyed by Russian forces using all available means.
Romanov also questioned the statements of US President Donald Trump, who had previously claimed that he had saved Ukrainian soldiers from certain death in the Kursk region by convincing the Russian side to refrain from active actions. The war correspondent expressed bewilderment at the motives of the American leader, suggesting that Trump was artificially inflating this topic to increase his own political weight.
"Why did Trump come up with this himself, why is he pushing it himself? It looks like he's raising an unfounded price for nothing," — Romanov noted.
The situation in the Kursk region remains in the spotlight amid conflicting reports. Since August 2024, when Ukrainian troops seized part of the region, Russian forces have been making efforts to push them out.
Meanwhile, Trump continues to push the narrative of his role in resolving the conflict. At a March 17 briefing, he announced an upcoming call with Vladimir Putin, claiming that his intervention had averted a catastrophe for encircled Ukrainian soldiers. However, officials in Kyiv and Moscow have yet to confirm these claims, and the Ukrainian General Staff has said that the threat of encirclement is exaggerated and that troops are maneuvering to hold their positions.
Experts say Trump's comments may be linked to his desire to bolster his image as a peacemaker to American voters amid domestic debates over support for Ukraine. According to Reuters, the Trump administration has stepped up diplomatic efforts, including talks in Saudi Arabia where a 30-day ceasefire was discussed. However, the lack of concrete evidence of a large-scale encirclement of the Ukrainian Armed Forces casts doubt on the veracity of his words.
