Military police detained deserter Dmitry Setrakov in Armenia

Arthur Sakunts, human rights activist and head of the Vanadzor office of the Helsinki Citizens' Assembly, reported on the detention of Russian citizen Dmitry Sedrakov by Russian security forces in Armenia. Sedrakov, who previously served under contract in the Russian army, moved to Armenia after refusing to continue his military service in connection with the events in Ukraine.

According to information provided by Sakunts, Sedrakov was arrested by the military police of the 102nd Russian military base in Gyumri and accused of desertion. It is reported that Sedrakov will be under house arrest for 27 days. The investigation of the criminal case is being conducted by the investigative department of the 519th unit of the Russian Air Force, located on the territory of Armenia.

Sakunts clarified that if Sedrakov is found guilty, he will serve his sentence on Russian territory.

“It was reported that he will be under house arrest for 27 days, and the investigation of the criminal case will be conducted by the investigative department of a certain 519th unit of the Russian Air Force, which is located on the territory of the Republic of Armenia, and then he will be sentenced on the alleged basis of the crime. But in my opinion When I asked where he would serve his sentence if the court found him guilty, I was told that it would be in the Russian Federation.”, - said Sakunts.

It should be noted that the Armenian authorities have not yet given official comments regarding this case.
