The Israeli military has struck the Russian Khmeimim airbase in the Syrian province of Latakia, the Military Affairs newspaper reported, citing unnamed Arab media. According to available information, the target of the attack was a plane carrying military cargo that had arrived from Iran.

"Israel attacked the Russian Khmeimim airbase in Syria's Latakia tonight - Arab media. An aircraft carrying military cargo from Iran allegedly arrived at the base, which became the target"- said in the message.

The incident may be related to long-standing tensions between Israel and Iran, which often manifest in the form of air strikes against Iranian interests in Syria.
