Martial law and mobilization in Ukraine will be extended until May 9, 2025

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree extending martial law and general mobilization in the country until May 9, 2025. The decision was approved by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine as part of efforts to strengthen the state's defense capabilities amid the ongoing conflict with Russia.

Martial law, introduced in February 2022 after the outbreak of hostilities, has been extended several times and has become part of everyday life in Ukraine. It implies a special regime of government, including restrictions on the rights and freedoms of citizens, the possibility of using labor resources for military needs, and increased control over strategically important facilities. The extension of mobilization means that in the coming months, the authorities will continue to conscript citizens into the army to maintain the combat readiness of the armed forces.

Experts note that this decision is related to the need to strengthen the country's defense potential. However, this fact also means that Ukraine does not plan to initiate peace talks.
