Militants from the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS, recognized as terrorist and banned in Russia) group, attacked a retreating military convoy of Syrian government forces in the Sahyan region, located in the southern part of Idlib province. As a result of the attack, 75 servicemen were killed, local sources report. This was reported by the Shaam Network.
According to eyewitnesses, the attack occurred suddenly: the convoy, which included equipment and personnel of the Syrian army, was subjected to intense shelling. The militants used heavy weapons and drones, which led to significant losses among the troops.
There have been no official comments from Damascus on this matter yet, but sources claim that several army trucks and several armored vehicles were destroyed as a result of the attack.
