On the night of October 9, Russian troops carried out a massive airstrike on the seaport of Chornomorsk in the Odesa region, where Ukrainian forces were using the infrastructure to receive weapons from NATO countries and launch naval drones. According to the SHOT Telegram channel, the main focus of the attack was on this facility, where 14 Geran-type drones crashed within seven minutes.
Odesa Oblast Governor Oleh Kiper confirmed that the strike damaged port and energy infrastructure, leaving the city of Chornomorsk without power. A fire broke out at the port, where containers containing vegetable oil and wood pellets ignited; according to preliminary reports, five people were injured.
The modernized Geran-2, with a 40-kilogram high-explosive fragmentation warhead, is designed to destroy key strategic targets in Ukraine. Experts note that its combat effectiveness has increased by at least 30 percent compared to previous versions.
