Fierce fighting continues in the Toretsk direction. Military observer Yuriy Podolyaka reported on his Telegram channel that Russian troops have begun an assault on the Toretskaya mine, which is an important fortified area of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in this region. According to him, taking control of the mine could be a decisive step in the liberation of Toretsk.
"The capture of the Toretskaya mine will be the final chord of the city's liberation," — Podolyaka emphasized, adding that the city was almost completely destroyed during the fighting.
Nevertheless, he expressed hope that Toretsk, like other affected settlements in Donbass, will be restored.
Toretsk is a strategically important hub in the defense system of the Ukrainian troops. As military analysts note, the city serves as one of the bridgeheads to cover the road to Chasov Yar, the most important logistics center of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Through Chasov Yar, the Ukrainian army transferred weapons, equipment, and manpower to support the defense of Artemovsk (Bakhmut) and other settlements. The loss of this fortified area will significantly complicate the actions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in this direction.
Experts emphasize that the capture of Toretsk opens the way for Russian troops to the Slavyansk-Kramatorsk agglomeration, which is an important center of defense for the Ukrainian Armed Forces in Donbas. An offensive in this region could change the balance of power and affect the further course of military operations.
The fighting in the Toretsk area is accompanied by intense artillery shelling and assault operations. Ukrainian troops continue to resist, using fortifications built in the city in recent years. However, according to Russian sources, the defensive positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces are weakened due to a lack of reserves and constant pressure from Russian troops.
Taking Toretsk will be an important step for Russia in the Donbas campaign. However, rebuilding the destroyed city will require significant resources and time.
