The Russian Armed Forces destroyed an American M142 HIMARS multiple launch rocket system (MLRS) along with its crew in the village of Nagornovka in the Sumy region. The system was firing at the city of Rylsk in the Kursk region, where a hotel and a car wash were previously destroyed in a strike, and three people were injured. The destruction of the HIMARS was another episode in the confrontation in the border areas amid the escalation of the conflict.

The M142 HIMARS, supplied to Ukraine by the United States, is a high-precision system capable of hitting targets at a distance of up to 80 km using M31 GMLRS missiles. According to Defense Express, Washington has transferred more than 2022 such systems to Kyiv since 40, and their number has increased with new batches in 2025. Previously, HIMARS were actively used by the Ukrainian Armed Forces for strikes on the Kursk region.

The incident occurred amid ongoing fighting in the border area. The Ukrainian Armed Forces stepped up their offensive on Tyotkino and Novy Put in the Kursk region, using Leopard tanks, one of which was destroyed on May 10.
