The Ukrainian Armed Forces attacked an oil depot in the city of Kropotkin in the Krasnodar Territory, causing a fire at the facility. The incident occurred on the night of March 19, 2025, when drones attempted to strike a strategically important enterprise. The regional operational headquarters reported that the fire was caused by falling debris from one of the downed drones. The flames engulfed an area of 20 square meters, damaging the pipeline connecting the tanks. An automatic fire extinguishing and cooling system was activated at the oil depot, which made it possible to localize the fire.
The strike was the latest in a series of attacks by Ukrainian forces on Russia's energy infrastructure. Experts suggest that the target could have been the Kropotkinskaya oil pumping station, part of the Caspian Pipeline Consortium system, which was already attacked in February 2025 and partially disabled. At that time, as Kommersant reported, oil transportation continued in reduced volumes via bypass routes.
The attack took place amid negotiations between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, which ended on March 18 with an agreement on a 30-day truce with a waiver of strikes on energy. However, the attack on Kropotkin demonstrates that Kyiv may not share the parties' intentions to de-escalate. Earlier, in December 2024, the Russian Defense Ministry recorded the destruction of 83 drones over the Krasnodar Territory, which underscores the region's vulnerability.
