Intensive military operations continue on the Kursk section of the Russian-Ukrainian state border, concentrated in the Tyotkino direction. According to the Telegram channel "Two Majors", the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) are attempting to cut off the salient in the area of the village of Tyotkino in the Kursk region. A Ukrainian assault group attacked from the village of Bessalovka in the Sumy region, and the transfer of enemy reserves to the Putivl and Belopolsky districts of the Sumy region, including reinforcements from Kyiv, has been recorded.
These events were part of an ongoing standoff in the border area that began with the Ukrainian Armed Forces' offensive in the Kursk region on August 6, 2024. The goals of the Ukrainian operation, according to Mykhailo Podolyaka, an adviser to the head of the Ukrainian presidential office, were to push Russian forces back from the border and disrupt their logistics. However, as The Economist notes, none of these goals were fully achieved, and Russia began to create a buffer zone in the Sumy region.
The Sumy region, which borders Kursk, remains a key area of tension. The Ukrainian Armed Forces are using Abrams tanks and Bradley infantry fighting vehicles in attacks on Kursk, but Russian forces are holding their ground.
