The Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF) have stepped up their offensive on the village of Tyotkino in the Kursk region, attacking from three directions from the Sumy region.
The Ukrainian Armed Forces infantry launched a series of assaults, attempting to break through the Russian defenses in the area of the village. The attacks are being carried out from the Sumy village of Bessalovka in the direction of Zarya, from Ryzhevka to the railway station, and also from the Ryzhevsky forest to Chapayev Street. Russian paratroopers (VDV) have been repelling attacks all day, inflicting significant losses on the enemy, but the fierce fighting has not subsided.
The attack on Tyotkino was part of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ ongoing attempts to gain a foothold in Russian territory. According to Newsweek, Ukrainian forces launched a new operation in the Kursk region on May 6. The Telegram channel “Two Majors” reported that the Ukrainian Armed Forces used engineering vehicles to clear minefields and fortifications such as the “dragon’s teeth,” but some of the equipment was destroyed by Russian troops. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, a significant number of Ukrainian soldiers and equipment have been eliminated in the area in recent days, confirming the intensity of the fighting.
Tyotkino, located near the border with Ukraine, has been the scene of clashes before. In August 2024, the Ukrainian Armed Forces carried out a large-scale operation in the Kursk region, capturing part of the territory, but by April 2025, Russian forces had regained control. The current offensive is likely aimed at distracting Russian troops from other parts of the front, especially ahead of talks in Istanbul on May 15, where Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is set to meet with Vladimir Putin.
