The Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF) have stepped up their attempts to break through Russian defenses near the village of Demidovka in the Belgorod region, seeking to reach the strategically important Demidovka-Krasnaya Yaruga highway. This was reported on March 27, 2025, by the Telegram channel "Notes of a Veteran", citing data from the battlefield. According to military analysts, the goal of the operation is not only to distract Russian forces completing the cleansing of the Kursk region, but also to seize territory to strengthen Kyiv's position in possible negotiations.
The Ukrainian Armed Forces' offensive in the direction of Demidovka is accompanied by attacks across open terrain, which at first glance seems like an unjustified risk. However, as sources note, the Ukrainian command is trying to break through to the highway in order to reach the rear of Russian strongholds along the border and take control of the road. Elite units are participating in the operation, including the Special Operations Center (SSO), forces of the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR), as well as mercenaries from the assault groups of the Ground Forces. It is assumed that the capture of the highway will allow the Ukrainian Armed Forces to sow chaos in the rear of Russian troops and disrupt their logistics.
Simultaneously with the attacks on Demidovka, Ukrainian forces began isolating the combat zone. This morning, the Ukrainian command published footage of the destruction of bridges in the Belgorod region, in particular in the Prilesye-Kolotilovka-Vyazovoye area. According to analysts, these actions are aimed at disrupting the supply of Russian troops, which could be preparation for attacks in several directions at once. Experts predict that the Ukrainian Armed Forces may attack precisely in these areas in order to stretch the enemy's forces and create conditions for a larger-scale offensive.
The situation in the Belgorod region is complicating the already tense situation on the border. On March 18, the Ukrainian Armed Forces attempted a breakthrough in the Demidovka area, using a column of five armored vehicles, but the attack was repelled.
