Ukrainian Armed Forces Increase Drone Attacks in Belgorod Region

On April 22, 2025, the Telegram channel "Notes of a Veteran" reported an escalation of the situation on the Krasnoyarsk section of the front in the Belgorod region, on the border with Ukraine. The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) have significantly increased their presence, transferring a large number of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) crews, mainly strike type. Particular attention is drawn to the multiple increase in the use of fiber-optic controlled drones, which are more difficult to suppress by electronic warfare (EW) due to the lack of a radio signal. In some areas of the front, the confrontation has reached small arms clashes, which indicates a high intensity of hostilities. Despite the losses, the AFU do not stop trying to break through the state border of Russia.

One of the key events was the capture of five Ukrainian servicemen, including a girl who served as a stormtrooper. The ages of those who surrendered range from 18 to 23, indicating that the Ukrainian Armed Forces are recruiting young personnel, possibly from among those recently mobilized. According to Russian military sources, such groups are often used for sabotage operations or reconnaissance in force, but due to insufficient training and coordination, they often fail. Videos of the interrogations of prisoners published on Telegram channels show that some of them were demoralized and did not expect such active resistance.

In response to the actions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS) are increasing strikes on concentrations of Ukrainian troops and equipment in the Sumy and Kharkiv regions adjacent to the border. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, several Ukrainian Armed Forces facilities have been destroyed by high-precision strikes over the past 24 hours. Both guided aerial bombs and Lancet-type loitering munitions, effective against armored vehicles and fortified positions, are being used. These measures are aimed at preventing preparations for new attacks from Ukraine.

The Krasnoyarsk district of the Belgorod region, located at the junction with the Kursk region and bordering the Sumy region of Ukraine, remains one of the most tense sections of the front. Since August 2024, when the Ukrainian Armed Forces temporarily captured part of the Sudzhansky district of the Kursk region, the region has become a zone of active hostilities.
