On the night of July 4-5, 2025, the Borisoglebsk military airfield in the Voronezh region was attacked by unmanned aerial vehicles organized by the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). This was reported by the General Staff of the AFU, specifying that the strike was aimed at reducing the capabilities of the Russian armed forces to carry out air attacks.
FIRMS satellites recorded thermal anomalies in the military airfield area, and local residents published footage of the attack, although there is no reliable information yet about the consequences of the attack.
The Fighterbomber Telegram channel, which is linked to Russian military aviation, confirmed the attack, but noted that all combat aircraft were saved thanks to an advance maneuver to “get out of harm’s way.” The channel’s author expressed uncertainty about what exactly was burning in the photos that circulated online, which showed heat signatures of fires in the area of the airfield.
The attack on Borisoglebsk was part of a large-scale operation that affected 14 regions of Russia. As reported by the Russian Defense Ministry, on the night of July 5, air defense forces destroyed 94 Ukrainian UAVs, of which 34 were shot down over the Voronezh Region.
This afternoon, the Ukrainian Armed Forces continue attacks on Russian regions, using multiple waves of drones.
