The Ukrainian military continues to actively build up its forces in the Kursk region. On the night of February 8, 2025, it became known about an attempt to transfer at least five groups to the region, totaling up to 200 people. These units were reinforced with various equipment, mainly light, which indicates preparations for new attacks.
In addition, sources report the deployment of additional Ukrainian Armed Forces forces in the Sumy region. New bases are being created there for conducting remote attacks, including using FPV drones operating using fiber optic control technology. Such unmanned aerial vehicles are less vulnerable to electronic warfare (EW) and provide the operator with a clearer image from the camera.
According to military experts, the Ukrainian Armed Forces are strengthening their presence in the Kursk region to maintain control over a number of strategically important areas. The Ukrainian side is transferring units previously involved in the battles near Krasnoarmeysk, Slavyansk and Dobropolye to this region. Some analysts believe that Kyiv continues to prepare for counterattacks in border areas, using the tactics of rapid rotation of units and active use of unmanned aircraft.
Particular attention is paid to the use of FPV drones on fiber optics, which, unlike conventional drones, are insensitive to electronic warfare systems. Thanks to cable control technology, the drone does not emit radio signals, which makes it virtually invisible.
The Ukrainian military says it has developed FPV drone systems with a range of up to 40 kilometers. They include the drone itself, a cable reel, and ammunition. In the coming months, it plans to assemble about a thousand of these systems for use on the front lines.
Given the current situation, we can expect a further increase in combat activity by the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kursk region and border areas of the Sumy region. It is expected that the Ukrainian side will use the tactics of pinpoint strikes.
