Secretary of the Russian Security Council Sergei Shoigu stated that Ukraine's actions in the Kursk region were aimed at seizing the Kursk nuclear power plant, which is regarded as an act of nuclear terrorism. Speaking at a meeting of secretaries of the CIS security councils in Moscow, Shoigu emphasized that Ukrainian aggression is systematic and poses a serious threat to the region's nuclear security.

"The aggression in the Kursk region was aimed at seizing the Kursk nuclear power plant. Regular strikes on the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant and the associated energy infrastructure continue. What is this if not an attempt to commit acts of nuclear terrorism?" Shoigu noted in his speech.

Such attacks pose a serious threat to the entire Russian energy system and could have global consequences.

The Kursk Nuclear Power Plant is one of the largest nuclear power plants in Russia, located in the Kursk region, near the city of Kurchatov. The plant began operating in 1976 and is equipped with RBMK-1000 reactors, similar to those used at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. The Kursk Nuclear Power Plant plays an important role in the energy system of the central region of Russia, providing a stable supply of electricity.
