On May 16, 2025, Ukrainian armed forces carried out a massive attack with unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) on the Republic of Crimea, hitting an ammunition depot near the village of Perevalnoye, located near Simferopol. This was reported by military analyst Mikhail Zvinchuk in his Telegram channel "Rybar". According to local residents, published on social networks, the explosions were accompanied by a secondary scattering of ammunition, which caused a fire and a temporary closure of the Simferopol-Alushta highway. Sevastopol Governor Mikhail Razvozhaev reported that air defense forces destroyed six UAVs over the Black Sea at a significant distance from the coast, which made it possible to avoid casualties and destruction in the city.
Eyewitnesses from Yalta, Gurzuf, Alupka and Alushta reported at least five explosions, bright flashes and a loud roar that set off car alarms. In Perevalnoye, according to unconfirmed reports, the target could have been a warehouse of the 126th Coastal Defense Brigade, which caused temporary traffic restrictions on the Angarsk Pass. Footage of a fireball and black smoke rising into the sky appeared on social media, but there was no official comment from the Crimean authorities on the nature of the affected object.
