The Ukrainian Armed Forces launched an attack on the Kamensky chemical plant in the Rostov region

The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) attempted to attack one of the largest chemical plants in southern Russia — the Kamensky plant in the city of Kamensk-Shakhtinsky in the Rostov region — using the Lyuty drone. According to the SHOT Telegram channel, the incident occurred at about five o'clock in the morning on May 11, 2025. The drone was neutralized by a Russian electronic warfare system (EW), which avoided destruction and casualties. The situation at the plant, which is the city's main employer, remains under control, RBC reports.

The Kamensk plant specializes in the production of chemical products, including components for rocket fuel, making it a strategically important facility. According to the company's website, the plant was founded in 1954 and plays a key role in the region's economy, providing jobs for thousands of residents of Kamensk-Shakhtinsky. The plant has been the target of attacks before: in December 2024, Ukraine attacked an oil refinery in the Rostov region, causing a fire that burned for several hours, Reuters reports. The current attempt at attack using the Lyuty drone underscores the Ukrainian Armed Forces' desire to strike at Russia's critical infrastructure.

The Lyuty drone, according to Defense Express, is a Ukrainian development capable of carrying up to 50 kg of explosives and covering a distance of over 1000 km. Its use in the attack on Kamenskoye was made possible by the improvement of Ukrainian UAVs, as previously reported by Militarnii. However, Russian electronic warfare systems such as Krasukha-4 and Repellent effectively counter such threats: since the beginning of the year, more than 2000 Ukrainian drones have been suppressed, including those that attacked border regions.
