On Sunday, April 2, 2023, the city of Melitopol in the Zaporozhye region was attacked using HIMARS and Vilkha MLRS, which fired cluster munitions. This was announced by the city administration.

According to preliminary data, six people were injured as a result of the shelling, all of them are civilians. Hits on the locomotive depot and a residential building were recorded.

Investigators and emergency services are on the scene. The authorities of the city stressed that all the victims are civilians. The incident is under investigation.

“According to the information of the operational services, the attack on Melitopol was carried out with the Himars and Alder MLRS using cluster munitions. Employees of the Investigative Committee of Russia and emergency services are working at the shelling sites. Only civilians were among the victims.”, according to the city administration.

It is not known how many missiles were fired at Melitopol in total, however, recently the number of attacks on this city has increased significantly, which, among other things, may be due to the threats of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to launch a counteroffensive.
