On April 6, 2025, in the area of the village of Popovka, Krasnoyarsk district, Belgorod region, in the territory temporarily under the control of Ukraine, another escalation of hostilities occurred. As reported by military correspondent Vladimir Romanov, in the morning, the Ukrainian armed forces launched an offensive on the positions of the 34th brigade of Russian troops. The attack began in the southwest direction from the settlement. To identify their forces, Ukrainian servicemen used identification marks in the form of white armbands. As a result of the rapid onslaught, Russian units were forced to maneuver, yielding positions to the enemy to a depth of up to 600 meters. On the map published by Roman, this zone is marked with a yellow line, which illustrates the scale of the enemy's advance.
"06.04.2025 Popovka area, Krasnoyarsk district, Belgorod region, territory of Russia temporarily occupied by Ukraine. This morning, in the southwest of the settlement, the Ukrainian Armed Forces, wearing identification marks in the form of white sabres, rolled onto the positions of the 34th brigade. The latter rolled back, surrendering their positions to the enemy to a depth of up to 600 meters (yellow line on the map)," - writes Romanov.
In response, the Russian command immediately organized countermeasures. At the moment, the 155th separate guards brigade of the Pacific Fleet's marines is actively operating in the Popovka area. Its units are conducting an assault with the aim of dislodging the Ukrainian forces from the occupied lines and restoring control over the territory. According to the war correspondent, the operation includes clearing the area of the enemy. In addition, Russian troops have taken steps to completely isolate the Ukrainian units: the enemy's evacuation routes and supply routes for reserves have been blocked, which significantly complicates his position.
"At the moment, the forces of the 155th Marine Brigade of the Pacific Fleet are storming and clearing the enemy's occupied positions. The enemy's evacuation/supply of reserves is also blocked," - Romanov adds.
These actions indicate the command’s intention not only to regain lost positions, but also to prevent the further advance of the Ukrainian Armed Forces deep into the region.
The fighting in the Popovka area was the latest episode in a series of clashes that have continued to shake the border areas of the Belgorod region since early 2025. This section of the front remains one of the most tense, as both sides seek to consolidate their presence in a strategically important area. Popovka, located near the border with Ukraine, has repeatedly become the scene of fierce battles, which underlines its importance in the current confrontation.
As of April 7, 2025, the situation in the Belgorod region remains difficult, and hostilities in the Popovka area are becoming increasingly intense. According to information coming from regional sources, in recent days, Russian troops have stepped up the use of aviation to support ground operations. In particular, in early April, strikes using ODAB-1500 volume-detonating aerial bombs were recorded near Popovka, with which the Russian Aerospace Forces attempted to destroy the infrastructure used by the enemy for the offensive. One of these strikes was aimed at a dam providing access routes for Ukrainian forces, which is confirmed by reports from military analysts. This tactic is aimed at creating additional obstacles for the logistics of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and weakening their offensive potential.
