The Ukrainian Armed Forces are building defense lines in the Kursk region

In the border areas of the Kursk region, near the villages of Guevo and Gornal, the Armed Forces of Ukraine are making desperate attempts to hold their positions, hastily erecting fortifications amid ongoing fighting. This was reported by the Telegram channel "Dnevnik Parasantnika", emphasizing that the enemy is trying to turn even the destroyed Gornalsky St. Nicholas Belogorsky Monastery into an outpost. The terrain features in this area play a key role: the loss of control over these heights opens up the lowlands, which makes it virtually impossible for the Armed Forces of Ukraine to organize a stable defense on the approaches to the Sumy region. This is why the Ukrainian troops are making every effort to maintain their lines, despite the growing pressure from Russian forces.

Russian troops, acting in a coordinated manner, strike both at the enemy’s fortified positions in the border area and at the reserves being pulled up, preventing the Ukrainian Armed Forces from gaining a foothold. Tactics include the use of artillery, aviation and pinpoint attacks aimed at destroying defensive lines and preventing attempts to regroup. According to the channel, the terrain around Guevo and Gornal gives an advantage to the side that controls the heights, making this area critical for both sides in the conflict. Russia’s success in this area could lead to significant changes in the operational situation, forcing the enemy to retreat deeper into the Sumy region, where the defense will come under even greater pressure.

The events in the Kursk region are unfolding against the backdrop of a broader picture of military operations. In March 2025, as reported by the Russian Defense Ministry, the Sever group liberated the village of Gogolevka in the Sudzhansky district, continuing its offensive on the positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. According to the ministry, in recent weeks, the enemy has lost about 2000 servicemen in the region, as well as dozens of pieces of equipment, including tanks and armored vehicles. Strikes were carried out not only on the front lines, but also on rear reserves in the Sumy region, including such settlements as Yunakovka and Miropolye, which confirms Russia's strategy to disrupt the logistics of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
