Vucic announced early elections in the country amid large-scale protests

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, speaking amid widespread anti-government protests, announced his confidence in holding early parliamentary elections in the coming months. This is reported by Tanjug agency.

"We are waiting for the opposition's response to the talks and I am sure that there will be interlocutors among them. However, if the dialogue does not take place, our decision will be in favor of early elections. We will by no means allow the government to be elected on the street, and a transitional government will not be created "It is clear that we are facing early parliamentary elections, the only question is in what month they will be held"- says the head of state.

The announcement comes after Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic expressed her willingness to resign in light of ongoing protests earlier in the day, subject to Vučić's consent. Brnabic is also open about the possibility of an early vote to form a new government before the end of this year.

Recall that amid these political divisions and protests, the country was recently shaken by tragedy. On May 3, in the center of Belgrade, a teenager opened fire at a school. As a result of this incident, 10 people died, including 9 schoolchildren and a security guard, 6 more children and one teacher were injured. According to local media, the 13-year-old shooter came to the school with two pistols and Molotov cocktails. On the night of May 5, in the municipality of Mladenovac, a young man born in 2002 also opened fire, killing 8 people and injuring 14 others.
