The Polish military once again scrambled fighter jets to intercept a Russian Il-20 reconnaissance aircraft over the Baltic Sea. The incident occurred on Tuesday, October 28, and followed similar events the previous day, when a similar aircraft was spotted in international airspace without a flight plan and with its transponder turned off.
According to the Polish Operations Command, two MiG-29 fighter jets visually identified the Russian aircraft and escorted it out of its area of responsibility. The aircraft did not violate Polish airspace, but was allegedly conducting reconnaissance missions over the Baltic Sea.
"Thanks to the high combat readiness, professionalism of the pilots, and the effective operation of the air defense system, the operation was carried out quickly, effectively, and safely," the Polish army noted.
