The Ukrainian armed forces attacked the Sudzha gas transmission station (GTS) in the Kursk region of Russia, through which natural gas was transited to Europe. This became known on the night of March 21, 2025, from video recordings from the scene published on Telegram channels and social networks. The footage shows a powerful explosion, followed by a large-scale fire that engulfed the territory of the facility. Eyewitnesses report thick black smoke and bright flashes, indicating serious damage to the infrastructure. There are no official statements from the Russian or Ukrainian authorities at the time of writing, which leaves open the question of the exact causes and consequences of the incident.
The Sudzha gas transmission system, located near the city of Sudzha, 10 kilometers from the border with Ukraine, until recently remained the last operating point for pumping Russian gas through the Ukrainian gas transportation system to the countries of the European Union.
Experts believe that Ukraine took advantage of the fact that the GTS came under the control of the Russian military, after which the attack was carried out.
At the moment, there are no official comments from the Russian Ministry of Defense.
