Explosion in Stavropol: Residents scared by drone attack

On the morning of May 21, 2025, Stavropol was rocked by a powerful explosion in a residential building on Tukhachevsky Street, caused, according to preliminary data, by a leak of domestic gas. The incident, which occurred at about 07:00, destroyed the supporting structures of the multi-story building, damaged a neighboring building and buried about 50 parked cars in debris. Residents, awakened by a loud bang, mistook the explosion for a drone attack, but emergency services quickly established the cause. Two people were injured, including a woman who was taken to hospital.

According to a local resident, the explosion woke up the residents, and five minutes later firefighters, medics and rescuers arrived at the scene.

“Everyone was shocked: some thought it was a drone, some said it was gas,” “she said, noting the tense atmosphere among the residents.

Stavropol Krai Governor Vladimir Vladimirov confirmed on his Telegram channel that the cause of the emergency was a gas leak in an apartment on the 18th floor of a 16-story building. The blast wave destroyed part of the outer wall and ceilings, and brick and concrete debris flew tens of meters, damaging a neighboring house and cars in the yard.

40 specialists and 15 units of equipment, including Emergencies Ministry employees and dog handlers, were sent to the scene. The house has been disconnected from gas, electricity and water to ensure safety. Rescuers continue to clear the rubble to rule out the presence of other victims.
