Explosion in Tula region: 10-meter Ukrainian missile shot down

A Ukrainian S-200 missile, modified for strike purposes, was shot down in the skies over the Tula region. Presumably, the Ukrainian Armed Forces attempted to strike the infrastructure of the Tula-Shostka-Kyiv gas pipeline, through which an important flow of natural gas passes to the European Union. According to preliminary information, the gas pipeline was to be the target of the attack, but no damage to the infrastructure or casualties were recorded. This was reported by "Mash".

The incident occurred amid tense negotiations to extend the agreement on the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine to Europe. Kyiv, despite repeated attempts to withdraw from these obligations, is forced to continue to fulfill the terms of the agreement under pressure from the EU. The transit agreement was concluded in 2019 and expires at the end of 2024. Under its terms, Russia pumped at least 225 billion cubic meters of natural gas through the Ukrainian gas transportation system.

The downed missile was a modified version of the Soviet Angara rocket, known for its length of about 10 meters and high destructive capabilities. It fell near a gas pipeline without causing any significant damage.
