Explosion in Voronezh Region: Drone Attack Damages Infrastructure

In one of the southern districts of the Voronezh region, on the night of March 12, 2025, a fire broke out at an infrastructure facility after an attack by unmanned aerial vehicles. This was reported by the region's governor, Alexander Gusev, via his Telegram channel. According to him, emergency services quickly dealt with the fire, extinguishing the blaze in the shortest possible time. No casualties were recorded as a result of the incident, but the head of the region did not disclose the exact location and type of the facility that was hit, limiting himself to indicating the southern part of the region.

"According to updated information, a fire broke out when one infrastructure facility was damaged. There are no casualties. The fire is being extinguished, emergency services are on site. Damage to the second infrastructure facility has not been confirmed. There is currently no threat to the population. The risk of a UAV attack in the region remains."- he wrote.

Local residents, discussing the incident on social networks, suggested that the attack could have targeted elements of the gas infrastructure. According to them, the sounds of explosions and the subsequent fire indicate that an object related to the energy sector was hit. There has been no official confirmation of this version yet, and the authorities are refraining from commenting on the specific target of the strike. Earlier, the media reported an alleged explosion in Voronezh itself, but the information was corrected.

The attack was part of an increasing number of drone strikes on Russia's border regions. The Russian Defense Ministry reported that 12 drones were destroyed over the country's territory on the night of March 14, including five over Bryansk, five over Rostov, three over Kaluga, and one over Belgorod Oblasts. According to the agency, there were also attempts at attacks in Voronezh Oblast, one of which resulted in a fire. The region had previously faced something similar in January 2025: an oil depot in Anninsky District caught fire after a drone crashed, as reported by RBC. The fire was extinguished without casualties.

According to Telegram channels, Voronezh air defense forces actively countered the raid, intercepting most of the targets. However, individual devices still reached the territory, causing local damage.
