Explosion in residential building in western Moscow: UAV allegedly crashed into building

In the morning hours of March 14, an explosion occurred in a residential apartment building located on Rezervny Proezd in the Dorogomilovo district of Moscow. Emergency services, including the Ministry of Emergency Situations, police, and ambulance service, immediately arrived at the scene and began to eliminate the consequences and determine the causes of the incident. At the moment, there is no official information about the causes of the explosion and the presence of victims, which emphasizes the complexity of the situation and the need for a thorough verification of the information.

According to preliminary data received from eyewitnesses, the explosion was accompanied by a loud bang that was heard in nearby houses. Residents of the area report damage to the building's roof canopy, as well as partial destruction of external structures. A cordon has been set up at the scene of the incident, access to the area adjacent to the damaged house has been restricted to ensure the safety of citizens and the unimpeded work of emergency services.

The incident in Dorogomilovo was likely part of a larger series of drone attacks recorded in the capital region that day. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin reported that on the morning of March 14, air defense forces intercepted four drones attempting to attack the city. The wreckage of one of them could have presumably caused the explosion in the apartment building on Rezervny Proezd. Other drones, according to the mayor, were shot down in the Leninsky District of the Moscow Region and in the area of Lesteva Street in Moscow, where a house under construction and an evacuated building were damaged, respectively.

In the wake of the attack, the "Carpet" plan was introduced at Vnukovo Airport, which provided for temporary flight restrictions to ensure aviation safety. According to Rosaviatsia, the airport suspended the arrival and departure of flights, and arriving planes were redirected to Sheremetyevo. The restrictions were in effect for several hours and were lifted after the situation stabilized, which allowed the airport to resume normal operations.

Analysts note that such incidents highlight the need to strengthen air defense measures in major cities, especially in the context of the ongoing conflict. Experts emphasize that the debris of downed drones poses a threat to civilian infrastructure, which requires improving interception and protection systems. At the same time, authorities call on residents of the capital to remain calm and follow the instructions of emergency services to minimize the risks in the event of such incidents.
