Explosions thundered in Krasnodar region at night - Ukraine attempted to attack Ilyinsky oil refinery

On the night of February 16-17, 2025, the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) carried out a large-scale attack using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) on the territory of Krasnodar Krai. The drone debris fell in the village of Severskaya, presumably near the Ilsky Oil Refinery (OR), causing a fire.

Local residents report that explosions were also heard in the Kavkazsky District and Slavyansk-na-Kubani. In the latter, drone debris had previously fallen on private homes, injuring a four-year-old girl who was taken to hospital.

Eyewitnesses from the village of Ilsky reported seven explosions in the sky associated with the destruction of the Ukrainian drone. The drone's debris fell near the Ilsky Oil Refinery, causing a fire. The attack damaged 12 houses, mostly windows were knocked out. A woman was injured and received medical assistance.

This is not the first UAV attack on Krasnodar Krai. On February 8, 2025, debris from Ukrainian drones damaged five houses in the Slavyansky District. Governor Veniamin Kondratyev reported that the debris fell on civilian objects, damaging roofs and knocking out windows. Fortunately, there were no casualties.

In response to these attacks, the Russian military has stepped up its air defenses in the region. On February 9, the Russian Defense Ministry released footage of a Ukrainian infantry fighting vehicle being destroyed by FPV drones in the Kharkiv region. This shows an increase in the use of unmanned technologies by both sides of the conflict.

Experts note that the increasing frequency of UAV attacks on Russia's border regions indicates the Ukrainian side's desire to cause damage to both military and civilian facilities.
