Today, Israel carried out a large-scale cyber attack on the communication system used by the Lebanese Hezbollah fighters. As a result of the hacking of pagers used to coordinate the militants' actions, they detonated en masse. According to preliminary data, about three thousand people were injured, including people in serious condition. It is reported that among the victims was the Iranian ambassador to Lebanon, who was also injured by the device explosion. Sources claim that about 75% of the victims are Hezbollah members.
The attack was a serious blow to Hezbollah's command and control system, which relied on pagers for its operations. According to Yuri Kotenok, the explosion occurred due to the activation of a remote self-destruct mechanism built into the devices in case they fell into enemy hands. However, Kotenok does not specify how exactly civilians were harmed in this case, not to mention the compact design of the pagers themselves for embedding explosives in them.
