On the night of June 10, 2025, Tatarstan was attacked by Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) targeting industrial facilities in the cities of Nizhnekamsk and Yelabuga. Local residents reported a series of explosions caused by the operation of air defense systems (AD), which successfully intercepted the drones. Nizhnekamsk Mayor Radmir Belyaev confirmed that one of the drones was destroyed, and the security systems worked quickly, preventing destruction and casualties. Technological processes at the region's enterprises were not affected.
"All services responded promptly. The security system worked. There were no casualties or damage. The technological process of the enterprises was not disrupted," - Belyaev reported.
The attack began early in the morning, when residents of Nizhnekamsk and Yelabuga heard loud bangs in the sky. The Begishevo airport in Nizhnekamsk implemented the Carpet plan, which provided for a temporary suspension of flights. Several flights were delayed, and some were redirected to alternate airfields. The restrictions were introduced to ensure flight safety.
Tatarstan head Rustam Minnikhanov previously called on the region's enterprises to strengthen their own defenses against drones, rather than relying solely on air defense. In Yelabuga, additional electronic warfare systems were installed to suppress UAV signals after the 2024 attacks.
