This morning, the air defense system in Kazan was activated, preventing an attack by Ukrainian drones on a strategically important facility - a helicopter plant. According to preliminary data, the Armed Forces of Ukraine used unmanned aerial vehicles of the aircraft type "Lyuty", which are replicas of the Turkish "Bayraktar". This type of drones has previously been used for attacks in Tatarstan.
Residents of Kazan reported hearing explosions that continued for several minutes. The first wave of explosions was recorded at around 6:50 a.m., after which air raid sirens were activated in some areas of the city. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, one Ukrainian drone was destroyed over Tatarstan.
The target of the attack was believed to be the Kazan Helicopter Plant, a key facility in Russia's aviation industry. The plant plays a major role in the production of military equipment, including upgrading and servicing helicopters used by the armed forces.
Eyewitnesses report that lights of the air defense system were visible in the sky above the city, which successfully neutralized the threat. Casualties and destruction as a result of the attack were avoided. Local authorities assured that the situation was under control and called on citizens to remain calm.
According to military experts, the use of Lyuty aircraft-type drones indicates ongoing attempts by the Ukrainian side to strike important targets in Russia. These drones have an increased flight range and can carry various payloads, including warheads.
