On the night of April 24, 2025, residents of Kolomna, Moscow Region, reported the sounds of air defense systems, presumably related to the interception of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). Social networks, including the X platform and Telegram, reported a bright flash in the sky and the sounds of an explosion, which, according to local residents, may indicate a downed drone. At the time of publication, there was no official information from the Russian Defense Ministry, Moscow Region Governor Andrei Vorobyov, or Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, which is in line with typical practice when data is updated within a few hours after the incident.
The reports from Kolomna echo a broader UAV threat previously warned about by the Telegram channel “Treugolnik.” The channel reported a large group of drones moving toward the Russian border, with a focus on Krasny Luch (LPR) and Novoshakhtinsk (Rostov Oblast). Although Kolomna was not mentioned in these reports, the introduction of the “Carpet” plan at the Zhukovsky (Moscow Oblast) and Grabtsevo (Kaluga) airports indicates an elevated threat level in central Russia. The “Carpet” plan is usually introduced when unidentified aerial objects, including UAVs, are detected, and involves the temporary closure of airspace. Rosaviatsia confirmed that Zhukovsky and Grabtsevo airports had suspended flights since the evening of April 23 due to the threat of drone attacks.
Residents of Kolomna, located about 100 km southeast of Moscow, began posting reports of air defense sounds at about 2 a.m. on April 24.
